Personally, I just use LogoTron. It sets up the front & side/bevel
surfaces automagically - click click click, BAM, it's done. ;)
I've never had any problems with flipped or nonplanar polys, as
long as the bevel inset isn't so large that is crosses over from
the edge to any interior 'holes' in the letters.
